The Opera Studies course was set up to allow students to work to a BA (Hons) degree away from the college campus. Traditionally course material was delivered via the postal service.
Working with Perception Technology we are in the process of building a system that enriches the distance learning experience by delivering the course material electronically. Once a member a student can select which module they want to study. They will then be able to download the relevant material, get updated information, bibliographies and related links concerning the module. Students will also be able to communication with fellow students and staff via a messageboard as well as have individual tutorials with their tutors.
The site needed to have it’s own identity, whilst still retaining a connection with the main RBC site. To achieve this the site uses a main colour (cyan), as it’s central identifying feature, supported by several secondary colours. The content is contained within solid blocks of these colours, giving the site a physical, architectural presence. Other graphical features are taken from the main RBC such as arrows, font (Verdana) and dashed lines. The simplicity of the design allows for easy updating and expansion as well as puts the focus of the site to the course material.
Site will be online June 2006
