Due to the overwhelming abundance of choice as consumers with which we are presented, the act of decision-making has become increasing complex. Simultaneously technology is being used more and more to 'solve' important economic and political decisions.
With people being marginalized in the actual decision making process, risk taking can afford to be encouraged within the workplace. Freed from any genuine consequences the act of decision-making becomes a test of character. The sociologist Ulrich Beck describes how in “advance modernity the social production of wealth is systematically accompanied by the social productions of risks”. In such a condition risk taking is seen as a positive act of confidence (pro-active, dynamic, forward thinking), whilst to be risk averse is to show a lack of faith in oneself, the company or brand.

MAUD - Decision Facilitator
MAUD (Multi-Attribute-Utility-Decomposition) is an application that allows the indecisive user to make the best decision available to them however mundane it is. Using a series of attributes such as options available, criteria and importance MAUD assess the inputted information and systematically calculates the best decision.

Risk Taking Screensaver
The risk taking screensaver focus’s on the act of risk taking within the dynamic workplace. The saver randomly displays one of the ten useful risk-taking statements. Using the language of the ‘blue sky’ thinking methods adopted in organisations to encourage risk taking in employees, the screensaver acts as a ‘useful’ tool whilst acting as a vehicle for reflection on the issue of risking-taking.
As it is only activated when the computer has not been used for a period of time (suggesting a lack of decision making on the part of the user), the screensaver encourages the user to be more positive and pro-active. The success of the screensaver will only be achieved through the re-activation of the computer, thereby removing the saver itself.

Both the application and the screensaver use a typeface that mergers Helvetica with VT100, two decisive, almost unquestionable typefaces.
